THE AMERICAN GOLDFINCH
by Bob Brown
© 1980
This places it as one of the earlier pieces in Bob Brown’s bird bell series.
About the Design
Depicts a male American Goldfinch in breeding plumage:
Bright yellow body
Black cap and wings with white markings
Feeding from pink thistle blossoms, a very accurate and desirable natural detail
White bone china bell body with gilt base rim
Original ceramic clapper and metal hanger intact
The thistle motif is especially appealing to bird collectors because it’s botanically and behaviorally accurate for goldfinches.
Condition (from all photos)
Very good to excellent
No visible chips, cracks, or repairs
Thistle petals, spines, bird beak, wings, tail, and feet all intact
Paint is strong and unfaded
Minor interior marks only, consistent with age
This is above-average condition, especially considering the fragile thistle details.
